When to use this pattern​

The first step of any tutorial should be an overview step.

How to use this pattern​

The overview step of the first tutorial within a project or course hierarchy should provide context for the overall learning experience.

The first step of subsequent tutorials within an experience and tutorials within a project and/or course hierarchy should:

  • Provide context for the upcoming tutorial.
  • Reference what has come before in the learning experience, where appropriate.

The overview step may duplicate content in the content summary — this is fine.

In-depth introduction to the topic should be provided in a contextual content step, not the overview step.
