Pattern - Content summary

caution

This page is undergoing updates. It is due to be finalized by the end of July.

Content summaries are required information for any type of content on Unity Learn, including tutorials, projects, and courses.

Content summary pattern

[Introductory sentence.] In this [tutorial/project/course], you will:
- [Learning objective]
- [Learning objective]

When to use this pattern

Follow this pattern whenever you create learning content at any level of the hierarchy (course, project, or tutorial). Content at each level of the hierarchy will need a summary.

For example, if you have a course which is made up of three tutorials you will need four summaries in total:

  • One for each of the individual tutorials
  • One for the course as a whole

How to use this pattern

This pattern will help you quickly inform the learner what your learning content is about and set their expectations.

When using this pattern:

  • For single-objective tutorials, provide a one sentence summary.
  • For multiple-objective tutorials, projects, and courses, provide a lead-in sentence and list the main objectives using a bulleted list.
  • When appropriate, identify the outcomes or progress the learner will have made by the end of the content.
  • If you add additional information in the summary to provide learners with more context, use direct address and talk directly to learners.
note

Sometimes additional context at this point is really helpful for learners. It’s best to keep your summary content as concise as possible, but please adapt this pattern flexibly to meet the needs of your target learners.
