Experience points

YOUR CHARTER

All charters: required

We group competencies into categories, sometimes called pillars, which we use to assign experience points (XP) to learners. These categories are as follows:

  • Unity Essentials: Installation, Unity Hub, basic functions of the Unity Editor, and basics of GameObjects and scenes.
  • Art and Animation: Art includes shaders and materials, lighting, cameras, visual effects, post-processing, and rendering. Animation includes both 2D and 3D, built-in and imported.
  • Audio
  • Systems Design: Includes user interface, input, asset management, Unity Gaming Services, optimization, building to platforms, and publishing.
  • Programming
  • Professional Skills: Mostly used by the Learn team, includes communication, collaboration, leadership, and other non-Unity skills to help learners get and keep a job in real-time development.

These categories and their names are subject to change.

XP values for content

As a general rule, contents should be assigned XP using the following guide:

  • XP may be spread across up to two categories.
  • Tutorials are worth 10XP spread across a maximum of two categories.
  • Exercises (tutorials with submissions), quizzes annd projects (units) are worth 60XP.
  • Courses are worth 300XP.
note

If any content except a tutorial is particularly long or complicated, it may be worth additional XP. Reach out to your LXD for guidance if you think this might apply to your learning experience.
