Decide and do
YOUR CHARTER
Full charter: required
Flexible charter: optional
Fast charter: not used
To apply our "Decide and Do" learning principle, we use a selection of tactics to support learner progression and engagement:
- Throughout each tutorial, allow learners to make their own creative choices whenever possible. For example, after you guide them to use a material to make a red cube, suggest that they make another material to add the color of their choice to another primitive.
- Within each tutorial (usually near the end), add a More things to try section to suggest in-project extensions in which the learner can apply the skills they have just learned. For example, you can suggest that they repeat what they have learned elsewhere in the practical activity, without the step-by-step guidance, but add an extra challenge that they should be able to figure out.
- Optional: As a bonus, invite learners to apply new and extended skills in their own projects (with some tips and advice, if relevant).
ACTION
Using the curriculum outline and skill-to-activity map, identify your opportunities for each of these Decide and Do tactics. Add these opportunities to the table. Ask your LXD for advice if you need it.
